Dr. Mina Komuta obtained her MD and Ph.D. degrees at the Kurume University School of Medicine, Fukuoka, Japan. She has 7 years of clinical experience in internal medicine, sub-specialized as a Hepato-Gastroenterologist with 20 years of experience as a pathologist including clinicopathological-based research.
She also has 12 years of experience working in Europe (Belgium) as a researcher and a clinical pathologist specializing in hepato-biliary-pancreas and liver transplantation in adult and pediatric patients.
Between 2014 and 2020, she worked at St.Luc-University Hospitals where she was responsible for hepato-biliary-pancreas and liver transplant pathology.
Her medical background provides an enormous advantage when it comes to contributing new ideas. As a result, she made a major paper of liver stem cell research in human liver cancer (Hepatology 2008). Her latest publication could clarify histological diversity in cholangiocarcinoma based on its cell-of-origin (Hepatology 2012). This has been selected “must-read” by the Faculty of 1000. She has an interest in 1) tumor heterogeneity in hepatobiliary, pancreatic, and gastrointestinal malignancy, 2) field cancerization, and 3) pathological quantitative analysis using digital imaging technology. Her research policy is to feedback scientific results to daily medical practice in order to improve patient diagnosis, outcome, and treatment.
